Save a Life

In science class we had to make a life jacket out of foam to keep a person head above water. We weren’t successful the first few times but then we knew what to do. At first we put the foam around the back of the person but it flipped the person over so it’s head was underwater. Then we cut the foam and wrapped it around the head and it worked.

Our design was successful but we did mess up a few times. It was successful because we put the foam around the head so it didn’t drown.

We could have made it better by letting the person lay on it’s back.

The life jacket make the man less dense so he can float instead of sink.

Simple Machines

Machines are made to made work easier. There are three types of machines. Ideal, simple, and compound. They help you get more force, lift, and power. With ideal machine work input equals work output. A simple machine is work input is greater the work output. A compound machine combination of is 2 or more simple machines.

The Rube Goldberg machine worked the first time but it didn’t work any other times. It didn’t work like it was supposed to. The bouncy ball was supposed to knock the block out but it  took the golf ball out too.  If we got the ball to go faster and just knock out the block it would have worked.

Some examples of simple machines are levers, pulleys, and inclined planes. A seesaw is an example of a lever. A clothes line is an example of a pulley. A ramp is an example of an inclined plane.
